Clothed and in your right mind

When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. (Mark 5:15-16).

I had a good laugh with myself. I read “they came to Jesus, saw the man… sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.” Why were they afraid? Who were they afraid of? Jesus? Or was it the man? Are people afraid of us because we are in our right minds?

When we go to Jesus and He touches us, we leave Him with our right minds. Why right minds? Because only right minds can live right lives, do right things, maintain right relationships and experience righteous living. Only in our right minds can we truly surrender our lives to Christ, deny ourselves, take up our cross daily and follow Christ. The way of Christ can only be negotiated and maintained by right minded people and they are right minded because they are clothed properly, i.e. clothed with Christ, “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” (Gal 3:26-27). In this spiritual state we are challenged to be sober-minded and productive always abounding in the work of our Lord. How would you rank your work in the Lord for the Lord?

Let us pray,

Our Glorious Father in Heaven, thank you for clothing us with Christ Jesus our Lord and restoring to us our right minds. We acknowledge Father, that it is you who has given us our right minds so we can love, serve and obey you; we thank you Father. Today we pray to you Father, for your strength, to enable us to live each day in this state of right-mindedness and not to allow our minds to be swayed and become entangled in the snares of the devil or the affairs of this world; when this happens we do and think devilish things. Father we want always to use our minds to focus on your teachings, to focus on righteous living, to focus on being good servants in your kingdom. We want to be good people doing good things to your glory and honor. Father please enable us to keep our right minds and may we use our minds to bless each other and to bless your name everyday and at all times. Please hear our prayer as we pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
